Help families in need by donating school supplies.
School supplies will be distributed at the HUGSS Back to School Supply Event on August 2.
It is hard to believe that school starts in less than a month for students across Alaska but that is the reality as July fades into August. This year, the Anchorage School District (ASD) is staggering students' first day of school depending on their grades. The ASD 2025-2025 school year calendar is available on the ASD website, along with lots of other useful information about the start of the school year.
In advance of the start of school, a coordinated effort is underway to ensure that Anchorage families in need have school supplies for the upcoming school year. If you can help, please consider dropping off some school supplies in the donation bins at the ASD Education Center located at 5530 E. Northern Lights Boulevard. Donations will be accepted until July 31. Needed supplies include:
24-count crayons
Scissors (rounded)
#2 Pencils
Glue sticks
Broad and/or fine-tip markers
Rulers
Colored Pencils
Pens (black or blue)
College and/or wide-ruled paper
Pink Erasers
Organizers are working to collect enough school supplies to fill 5,000 backpacks full of school supplies for families in need. The backpacks will be handed out at the HUGSS Back to School Supply Event that will be held on Friday, August 2, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School.
